Blockchain gaming studio Bloxmith has announced the launch of Raiders Rumble, a 1v1 strategy game for mobile that runs on the Flow blockchain. The open beta version is now available on Google Play and Apple App Store.
To win over gamers from traditional and Web3 backgrounds, the game features a daily rotation of tournament modes where the top 50% of players can win rewards such as RUMB tokens: Raiders Rumble’s native token. NFTs are also given out upon completion of specific tasks but will not give any in-battle advantage to gamers.
Co-founder and CEO Wayne Lee remarked that the team wanted their first game to connect traditional and Web3 gamers and added that Flow is an ideal platform for this purpose due to its scalability solution for games and NFTs. Furthermore, its fast onboarding process makes it accessible to mainstream users.
As part of the planned roll-out and esports focus of the game, three Flow-sponsored bonus tournaments will be hosted with a prize pool totaling $120,000 in FLOW tokens offered to the most innovative strategists. Chirag Narang, head of product at Flow, noted that Bloxmith’s approach to game design and user onboarding aligns perfectly with their goals for integrating mainstream users into Web3.
Founded in December 2021 by veterans from Riot Games, Activision Blizzard, Facebook Gaming, and Pumpkin VR, Bloxmith plans to create games that put more emphasis on fun than finance while being backed by Dapper Labs, Infinity Ventures Crypto, Bitoro, Moon Holdings, Results.io, SEA Pixel, and Vayala.
Ongoing Struggle of Web3 Gaming
Despite the charts showing positive numbers on the future of Web3 gaming, plenty of traditional gamers have been outspoken against Web3 in video games. Since 2021, many conventional players have called NFTs in games a scam.
The division between gamers created by the misconception of Web3 and NFTs has been a problem in the gaming community. While some players embrace this new gaming approach, others remain skeptical and critical of it. On one side, proponents of Web3 gaming have praised its potential to offer higher ownership of in-game items and create a new generation of gamers. On the other side, opponents argue that Web3 gaming is nothing more than an attempt to scam players out of money.
The ongoing struggle between traditional and Web3 gaming has made it difficult for developers to create games aimed at both groups of players. Developers are caught in-between having to please both critics and supporters while also managing the risks of launching a Web3 play in the current uncertain economy.
The future of Web3 gaming is still being determined. Whether it will gain traction with traditional gamers remains to be seen. However, one thing is for sure – as more developers experiment with NFTs and other Web3 technologies, the gaming industry will continue to be heavily influenced by the growth of Web3.
