- Timex partners with the famous Bored Ape Yacht to launch Bored Ape-inspired watches.
- Customers who purchase the watch can personalize it with cases, straps, and engraving options.
- The luxury watchmakers declare themselves as “timekeepers of the metaverse.”
Timex, the luxury watchmaker, has announced its partnership with the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection, unveiling a line of 500 one-of-one customizable timepieces. Timex confirmed the news on December 2 through a tweet, saying anyone can mint and grab one of the limited 500 NFT creations, which will display Bored Ape or Mutant Apes NFTs on the watch’s face. The tweet read:
“Don’t let your ape’s wrist go naked. Reserve yours now. Anyone can mint the pass and secure their right to one of the 500 creations, but only BAYC and MAYC holders can create their set.”
The holders of the BAYC NFT will soon be able to show off their PFPs on their wrists, engrossed in a luxury TIMEX watch. The customers who will be lucky to purchase the watches (because they are limited) will be able to customize them with the desired case, straps, and engraving options.
The collection will feature a physical watch and an identical digital version as an NFT. However, Shari Fabian, the senior chief of Global Marketing and creative at Timex, gave his comments about the new NFT project saying:
“Timex is entering Web3 by keeping creativity at the forefront. We are redefining and pushing boundaries of physical, virtual, and now physical products.”
The Ape Community Stalwarts, such as CryptoVonDoom and Josh Ong, provided creative direction for the BAYC watch collaboration. In an announcement, VonDoom noted that “as part of the OG Bored Ape community, it’s been dope to collaborate with the OG’s of watchmaking.”
Timex declares themselves “timekeepers of the metaverse.”
Timex has been giving bits and pieces of information on its collaboration with BAYC; most customers weren’t sure ’till they made the announcement publicly on Friday. Early last month, Timex launched a unique and interactive experience that enabled players to “Race against TimeX.” Timex identified itself as” timekeepers of the metaverse” with the release of branded challenge in the game Fortnite, one of the most popular video games in the world.
On December 4, Timex held a private presale event for the Ape community in Miami alongside Art Basel, offering early access to their wares. The function represented the continued emergence of brand-name NFTs as a new energy in the creative industry. A few custom-made timepieces from TIMEX featuring Apes were presented at the art event, where the watchmaker hosted the party.
However, the sale of Timepiece Forge passes NFTs can be minted for 2 ETH or around $2,500. The Forge Pass holders will be able to design their watches on the Timex website in mid-December, as the shipping of Bored Apes watches will begin sometime in the second quarter of 2023.
Timex has also addressed customer complaints about the password for the BAYC not working and has resolved the issue by removing the password to make it easier for customers, as they have encouraged holders to mint and enjoy many discounts this holiday season.
